Favorite Disney Family Vacation Rides at Disneyland

Our favorite rides at Disneyland include:

  • Fantasyland Rides we loved were Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Teacups, Dumbo, and trying to pull the sword out of the stone. Snow White, Pinocchio and Mr. Toad were scary for our preschoolers, but big fun for the older kids. It’s a small world is fun, too.

  • Tomorrowland Autopia and Astro Orbitor were our favorites, along with Buzz Lightyear.

  • Mickey’s Toontown Our girls loved to go into Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse’s house. They also liked the Gadget’s Coaster.

  • Adventureland The Enchanted Tiki Room is a hoot! We also liked the Jungle Cruise and exploring Tarzan’s tree house.

  • Frontierland Exploring the island was at the top of the kid's list. Take your water bottles and plan to spend time here with the kids exploring man made caves that cover all over the island and a tree house, barrel bridges, etc.)

  • Critterland The Winnie the Pooh ride is cute.

Favorite Disney land Vacation Rides at California Adventure

At California Adventure, they have taken the top attractions from Disneyworld’s various parks and have put them into this one park. A great Disney Family Vacations deal!

Soaring Over California is a really cool ride. A must do!

For the youngest kids, we’d suggest doing Princess Character Dining, the Soaring Over California ride, and to see the live show. For little bitty kids they have a “Bugs Life” section.

A great souvenir item...in the gift shop right by the entrance to California Adventure they have Mr. Potato head pieces that are Disney themed. If you have a Mr. Potato Head, you can fill a

box with themed pieces. If they are running the Electrical Light parade that would be good to go to.

Other great Disney Family Vacations Attractions

The parade was FANTASTIC. Plan to line up 30 minutes in advance.

The fireworks show was the best I have ever seen. It was choreographed to music and I just can’t say enough about it. We saw it from our hotel room each night, and we were in the

park the last night. Seeing it over the castle was a highlight of the trip.

The fantasmic show is supposed to be wonderful, but wasn’t playing on a night we were there. You can see on the Disney website what events will be happening on the days you are going – parades, fireworks, shows, etc.

In the hotels and at the park you can buy autograph books, or you can bring your own from home. They are fun because when you see a character you can get their autograph and you can take your picture with them. This is free! Some of the books that you can purchase at the park have a place for the character's autograph on one side of the page and the photo you took on the other side. It takes a lot of time, but it is what my kids think is their favorite part of going to Disneyland.

Character dining is good because you can see some of the characters. If princesses are important you might want to go to California Adventure for the princess meal and get to meet a bunch then. It is costly, but the food is bountiful and good, and the kids love it. Plus you can save all that time waiting in line in the park to see a character if you have already seen them at your meal. If you do character dining later in the morning, it isn’t as crowded so the characters can spend more time at your table and not have to make the rounds as much, plus you'll have an option of both breakfast and lunch foods.

    Another advantage of character dining...

You can find Mickey, Minnie at just about any time in Toontown but you will have to stand in line. You will also find Goofy, Donald and Pluto there. You can find the princesses around the castle, but you will have to wait in line. This takes a lot of time. If you go to a character meal you can get some of the autographs, pictures and hugs there which will save time in the park.

You can find Mary Poppins often on Main Street, and Aladdin and Jasmin in Adventureland. Winnie the Pooh characters are in Critterland.

The Disney Magic and Disney Family Vacations

Everyone is most helpful and accommodating at Disney. We noticed on our trips that people working at the park aren’t just teenagers but people who are making a career of it. One time we needed a map and asked an employee and he told us to look for a custodian (all over the park, they wear white and are sweeping up every little crumb) and 2 minutes later THEY found US and had a map for us.

On our Disney family vacations, we've found that Disney parks are clean and well-kept.

When to go on your Disney Family Vacations

You can tell how busy the park thinks they will be by how long their operating hours are. Use this to plan the days you will visit the park. The longer the operating hours, the busier theyanticipate the park to be.

We like to go towards thd end of May or beginning of June. We haven't had a problem with long lines going at that time. As a matter of fact, we usually could walk onto a ride or only had to wait one or two rotations for almost every ride. Keep in mind this was our experience for Disney family vacations. Your Disney family vacations may be different!

Getting in early made a big difference in Fantasy Land – I noticed later in the day that they had longer lines.

Disney parks have a thing called “fast pass” for some rides where you get a pass for a ride – it “holds your place in line” and tells you what time (a window of an hour) to come back to ride. That way you don’t have to stand in line.
