Family Fun Vacation Destination:
Helen Keller Birthplace Tuscumbia, Alabama
Home ->Alabama Family Vacations
One family fun vacation destination that we think is worth the trip is the Helen Keller Birthplace in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
While on a road trip thru several states, we planned a visit to the home.
A bit off the beaten path, we were glad we made the drive to Tuscumbia.
We actually got to visit during their annual festival at the home, and the play about her life was being performed that evening.
It was amazing to see the family home, Ivy Green, as well as the other buildings on the property.
And, yes, you can even see the water spout that was the breakthrough to communication for Helen.
So now, when anyone in our family hears something about Helen Keller, they can exactly visualize everything that is described about her early life. That is priceless!
To plan your visit, go to www.helenkellerbirthplace.org. Ivy Green is located at 300 North Commons Street, West Tuscumbia, AL.
Tuscumbia is in the Northwest portion of the state, and is a convenient side trip on the route between Nashville, Tennessee and Montgomery, Alabama.
