Road Trip Planner for Road Trip USA: Midwest
Some of the midwest is rural. You'll want to plan for periods of time without services that you might find in a metropolitan area.
Here are some helpful road trip planner tips we learned on our family travels in rural areas:
Fill up the tank with gas whenever you reach the 1/2 way empty point (or before).
Cheap travel includes buying food. Make sure you have plenty of snacks on hand in the car and stock up on water bottles.
Finding a place to eat in a rural area can be a challenge. If it is mealtime, or close to it, stop or at least pick something up for later if your destination is a distance away.
Always keep a paper map for backup, just in case satellite or cell reception isn't available.
